Dec. 26–ANTIOCH — A man whose arrest Tuesday was precipitated by him tossing a safe out the window of a moving car has been linked to at least five home burglaries over the past three days, police said.

Around 4:15 p.m., police responded to a call from the 5000 block of Canada Hills Way reporting the safe-tossing.

Using a witness description, officers found the suspect car unoccupied on Kusher Way. They conducted a yard search in the area and found 32-year-old Eduardo Segura hiding in the bushes near a home in the 5000 block of Stirrup Way.

A search of Segura’s car yielded property from an unreported burglary on the 2500 block of Larch Way, police said. The safe that he discarded was stolen in a home burglary Monday on Canada Hills Way.

Police said they also searched Segura’s home and found property that connected him to at least five home burglaries dating back to Sunday. Some of the homes involved were in the 5000 block of Woodmont Way and 5000 block of Rock Island Drive.

Segura has been booked into County Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and probation violation. He is being held on $180,000 bail.

An investigation into the burglaries is ongoing, and police ask that anyone with information contact Detective Steve Bergerhouse at 925-779-6894.
