CEDAR CITY — An employee at the Dynatec Mining Corp. has been charged with stealing dynamite and other items from the company.

Richard Denson, 42, of Ticaboo was arrested Dec. 18 and charged with second-degree felony unlawful possession of an explosive device or incendiary device, according to Becki Bronson, Garfield County Sheriff’s spokesman.

Denson bailed out of the Garfield County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.

Bronson said Garfield County contacted federal officials, and since then, local law enforcement and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have been working closely together to determine whether there is evidence of any other possible crimes.

“The ATF is conducting their investigation at the mine where he works to try to determine if this is the only theft. They haven’t finished the investigation and it is still ongoing,” she said.

Denson, who was described as a convicted felon by the sheriff’s office, allegedly had two sticks of dynamite, a blasting cap and a detonation cord in his car.
