Lenovo Enters Consumer PC Market With 'Idea' Brand

Personal computer manufacturer Lenovo has announced its entry into the global consumer PC market with the launch of a new line of IdeaPad notebooks and IdeaCentre desktops PCs, which complements its business-oriented ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops.
According to the company, the new IdeaPad notebooks are engineered for home/home office or personal use. These IdeaPad notebooks are powered by Intel Centrino processor technology and have in-built features such as facial recognition, Dolby home theatre surround sound and dedicated gaming controls. It also includes frameless screen and touch-sensitive control surface.
Furthermore, the company plans to sell the IdeaPad Y510, Y710 and U110 in the US. The company said that the IdeaPad Y510 is a 15.4-inch notebook designed for customers looking for a versatile all-in-one notebook. IdeaPad Y710 is a 17-inch notebook designed for users, who desire a high level of performance for entertainment. IdeaPad U110 is an ultra portable 11-inch widescreen notebook PC for mobile users, which provides extensive computing time with an additional battery.
Liu Jun, senior vice president and president of consumer business group at Lenovo said: "We're now bringing Lenovo's expertise in design and engineering to consumers with our Idea-branded PCs. We are confident we will grow our consumer business by blending innovative technologies like facial recognition with stylish designs to enhance the way people use technology in their personal lives."
The company plans to launch these PCs in multiple countries including US, France, Russia, China, and Singapore. It is using various promotional activities such as web-based promotion, merchandising, point-of-sale and traditional media advertising to promote its 'Idea' brand. The company's rival Acer already sells personal computers in the US, Asia Pacific and Europe.
In December 2007, the company announced the launch of $200 personal computer in India. In July 2007, HP also introduced business notebooks in India under four categories namely standard, business, professional and workstation, depending on customer's needs.
