4HomeMedia Launches Industry's First Service Provider Media Management Solution
Posted on: Monday, 7 January 2008, 09:00 CST
4HomeMedia launched today at the international Consumer Electronics Show the first media management service specifically built from the ground-up for service providers and their consumer subscribers. Also, 4HomeMedia, in conjunction with product partner Ximeta, has won a CES Innovations Honoree award for the media management application running on a network attached storage device. The 4HomeMedia ControlPointTM embedded software can run on the networked attached storage device, a set top box (STB), or in a home router / residential gateway (RGW), and is able to control all the audio, video, and photos on the networked attached storage device from either anywhere within the home or from anywhere at a distance with remote access via 4HomeMedia's hosted Portal Server product. The media can be personal media, user-generated content from websites such as YouTube or Flickr, or "long tail" content. The award-winning application offers an auto-back-up capability for content stored on the networked attached storage device, enabling yet another monthly recurring revenue opportunity for service providers--automatic digital asset back-up for consumers.
"4HomeMedia has the core team from a company previously known as PRISMIQ, the manufacturer of the world's first digital media adapter (DMA)," said Brad Kayton, COO of 4HomeMedia. "The PRISMIQ MediaPlayer back in 2003 won consumer product of the year from CES/CEA, PC Magazine, Computer Shopper magazine, Electronic House magazine, CNET, TechTV, to name a few, as well as over 15 editor's choice awards. What we have created here at 4HomeMedia-- adding integrated media control to the home control services platform which is now in its second year of shipping status to OEMs around the world-- leverages the many lessons we learned with the PRISMIQ experience and takes it beyond anything that is in the market place today; a truly user-centric approach to media management meets the next generation of broadband services." The 4HomeMedia team also consists of key personnel formerly of TiVo, The Walt Disney Company, Intel Digital Home, 2Wire, and ANT Software, making for the best pedigree in the industry with the distinctive ability to deliver on the promises of next-generation broadband-centric media and entertainment management.
4HomeMedia uniquely combines media and content management, universal entertainment center component control, and home control/automation in a unified, consistent user-interface (UI) from any connected television, networked home computer, Smartphone, or browser-based touch screen in the home, or remotely via a browser or mobile phone. The UI is fully customizable by service providers to offer their distinctive look-and-feel and corporate brand identity. The UI is personalizable, so consumers can modify and adjust to see and access only those aspects of controlling their digital lifestyle that they truly care about. The UI also easily assimilates into premium content guides as part of a universal media & content management application. The overall solution is innovative in its attention to networked attached storage as a new device in the home and enabling it to integrate seamlessly into a broadband service provider end-to-end network architecture.
"We're seeing media management and access becoming increasingly important to consumers," said Joyce Putscher, Principal Analyst at In-Stat. "Allowing service providers to tap into this market will facilitate the delivery of next generation services, which have the potential to greatly enhance consumers' media experiences. 4HomeMedia is one of the first companies offering a solution to bridge the home's networked media environment for service providers."
4HomeMedia will be exhibiting its solutions at the international Consumer Electronics Association January 7-10, both at its private suite in the Las Vegas Hilton and in the Z-Wave Alliance Pavilion in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
