Posted on: Monday, 7 January 2008, 09:00 CST
Alereon, Inc., the Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology leader for WiMedia and Certified Wireless USB applications, today announced that its AL5000 Certified Wireless USB Chipset has been named a 2008 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award Honoree for the Enabling Technologies category.
The prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards program recognizes the most innovative consumer electronics (CE) products in the industry's hottest product categories. "Innovations" has become a hallmark for the best-designed products in consumer technology.
"Being recognized by such a prestigious organization is yet another significant milestone for Alereon as we continue to drive the growth of the UWB and Certified Wireless USB markets," said Eric Broockman, CEO of Alereon. "This award is a testament to our proven, industry-leading technology that meets worldwide regulatory requirements, without sacrificing performance; thus, enabling the rapid production of wireless USB products to help create a world without wires."
The AL5000 Chipset integrates the RF transceiver, Media Access Controller (MAC), BaseBand processor (BBP) and firmware/software needed to implement a complete WiMedia Ultra Wideband (UWB) product that supports all protocol adaptation layers, including Certified Wireless USB device and dual-role device technology. Covering the entire WiMedia spectrum from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz, the AL5300/AL5100 chipset was optimized for both PC host applications and embedded applications -- such as PC aftermarket devices, handheld electronics, consumer electronics and mobile products, where space and power consumption are at a premium.
At 2008 CES, Alereon will show a variety of demos based on its AL5000 worldwide solution, including:
A demonstration of WiMedia radios using the AL5000 to achieve usable data throughput in excess of 100Mbps
Applications running in Bandgroup 6, the only bandgroup that meets the regulatory requirement worldwide
New mobile application demos using cellular phones
New streaming video applications
New office applications, including streaming hard drives
Alereon's demonstrations will be located in an Alereon Kiosk in the WiMedia Tech Zone, South Hall 3 Booth# 31642, and in an Alereon Kiosk in the USB-IF Tech Zone, South Hall 4 Booth# 35625.
