Axentra™ Corporation today announced a new mobile access capability for HipServ, the company's award-winning media server software that lies at the heart of the LaCie Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition. With the new capability, owners of LaCie's popular personal media server can access their personal media files anytime, anywhere and at no extra cost.
In addition to accessing files, consumers using the mobile access feature can directly upload photos and other media files from their mobile device to their HipServ-powered LaCie media server. Owners of mobile devices equipped with a mobile browser and appropriate media player can also download and play videos and music remotely that are located on the LaCie Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition.
Axentra's new HipServ mobile access capability, announced at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, is supported on all Blackberry devices and Apple iPhones, as well as mobile devices running the Windows Mobile operating system. No additional software or hardware is needed to take advantage of the new feature, which will debut in late January.
"Personal media is becoming an increasingly valuable part of the mobile phone and PDA experience. This new capability brings the power of the LaCie Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition, as well as HipServ itself, to mobile devices in a new and valuable way," said Niall O'Driscoll, vice president of marketing and product for Axentra Corporation. "Best of all, this remote access capability comes at no additional cost to LaCie users. Just log on and your entire multimedia collection is at your fingertips."
"LaCie Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition users will definitely welcome the extended functionality brought about by the new HipServ mobile access feature," said Eric Vermelle, LaCie marketing director. "The personal media experience is about more than sitting in one's living room. Now users can share photos and other media with their family and friends wherever they are, and whenever they wish."
LaCie Ethernet Disk mini -- Home Edition is a 500GB personal media server designed to save, show, sync and share a person's personal digital media at home and on the road. The feature-rich server is the first commercial device to combine remote access through the Internet, ability to stream multimedia files through DLNA-compatible UPnP media players, and act as an iTunes music server. The Home Edition also includes specialized applications such as DesktopMirror, that can backup and restore computer files to the device for safekeeping, sharing and remote access.
The Home Edition supports easy drag-and-drop sharing of documents, music, photos, and videos so that digital content will never be out of touch. Stored files can be viewed simply and securely via any Internet browser; by utilizing HipServ's easy-to-use menu, users can also grant customizable-access to friends and family through email invitations. Locally, photos can be shared and viewed on any UPnP TV or from any Microsoft Xbox 360 or Sony Playstation 3.
During 2008 CES, attendees can see the full range of HipServ-enabled devices, including the LaCie Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition, at the Axentra display, Booth 71849 in the Sands Convention Center. For more information, visit the display or log on to www.axentra.com.
