Top-Flight Team Launches Secure64 With Core Patent Technology to Make Network Communications Faster and More Secure

Posted on: Monday, 24 January 2005, 06:00 CST

Secure64 Software Corporation:

-- Management Team, Including Dr. Bill Worley, Principal Architect of PA-RISC and PA-Wide Word (the basis for Itanium(R)); and Peter Cranstone, Co-developer of mod_gzip for Apache, to Lead 64-Bit Software Development Company

A team of industry heavyweights today announced the formation of Secure64 Software Corporation -- a new 64-bit software development company with core patent-pending technology poised to dramatically improve the security and performance of network communications. Secure64 is solving many of the performance overhead and security limitations of current general purpose operating systems and hardware technologies by taking full advantage of the capabilities inherent within the Itanium(R) microprocessor architecture.

"The days of having to compromise security and stability for speed in network communications will soon be over," stated Peter Cranstone, CEO, Secure64. "Secure64 will transform the industry by significantly increasing the performance of network processing while solving the security problems associated with delivering intensive, mission-critical content on the network -- all without disrupting existing network infrastructures. Bringing this Holy Grail to the masses is part of our vision of creating a new market standard for security and performance of network communications."

To help realize this vision, Secure64 has assembled an impressive management team comprising leaders from the technology and financial industries, including:

-- Denny Georg, PhD, Chairman - Held several key leadership positions at Hewlett-Packard, including VP and CTO of HP Services, VP and CTO of Information Technology Strategy Corporate IT, and VP and CTO of E-Services Solutions, Business Customer Organization.

-- Peter Cranstone, CEO - Co-developer of mod_gzip for Apache -- the original real-time content accelerator (data compression) technology for the Internet. Prior to co-founding Secure64, Mr. Cranstone was CEO for Remote Communications, Inc.

-- Steve Goodbarn, Co-Founder, President - Formerly Vice President of Finance, CFO and an Executive Committee member at Janus Capital Corporation. During this period Janus grew assets under management from $10 billion to more than $330 billion and operations expanded internationally. Mr. Goodbarn is a member of the Board of Directors of EchoStar Communications Corporation (Nasdaq:DISH).

-- Dr. Bill Worley Jr., PhD, Co-Founder, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer - Retired from Hewlett-Packard in 2002 as HP Fellow, Distinguished Contributor, and Chief Scientist. At HP he was the technical director and principal architect of both the PA-RISC and PA-Wide Word (the basis for Itanium(R)) processor architectures. He is credited with 16 patents and three patents pending for the Secure64 secure platform.

-- Domenic Gianfrancesco, Vice President, Sales & Marketing - Brings more than 22 years of channel sales and marketing experience with companies including Extreme Networks, FORE Systems/Marconi Communications and Access Graphics (now Access Distribution, a General Electric Company).

-- Joe Gersch, Vice President, Product Delivery - Retired from Hewlett-Packard with 24 years R&D experience on such significant products as HP OpenView, HP Smart Card Center, HP Enterprise Networking and Security, HP Engineering Workstations, CD Writer, Tape Storage Products, and HP UX.

In addition to its uniquely qualified management team, Secure64 has three core patents pending that cover its application environment and network communication architecture. "Secure64 is the first company to take full advantage of the Itanium architecture's unique attributes," stated Dr. Bill Worley, VP and CTO, Secure64. "Our patent-pending technology exploits the chip's unique capabilities for parallelism and compartmentalization. Utilizing protection IDs and memory access controls allows us to provide the highest levels of security for network communications. This enables Secure64 to capitalize on the chip's large register sets and high instruction-level parallelism to significantly boost network performance."

The first general availability of Secure64 products is scheduled for release in Summer 2005.

About Secure64

Secure64 is a 64-bit software development company establishing a new market standard for the security and performance of network communications. It is the first software company to take full advantage of the Itanium(R) chip's 64-bit microprocessor architecture to address many of the structural and design limitations of current general-purpose operating systems and hardware technologies. Secure64 allows customers to dramatically increase the performance of network processing, solve the security problems associated with delivering mission-critical content on the network, and move greater amounts of application processing from centralized data centers to network servers -- all without disrupting existing network infrastructures. Secure64 owns three core patents covering network communications and is led by a management team consisting of renowned, visionary leaders in the technology and financial industries.
