Michael Rose, IDC Virtualization Expert, Offers Insights into Virtual Client Computing

Desktone, Inc., provider of the first virtual client computing platform that enables desktops as a service, today announced the availability of an exclusive podcast with Michael Rose, associate research analyst for IDC's Enterprise Virtualization Software program. Rose provides insights into the Virtual Client Computing Taxonomy report he recently published, including key virtualization and delivery methods, and guidance to organizations considering virtual client computing (VCC).

Rose has identified three types of virtualization software for VCC: application, user session and desktop, namely client-hosted and server-hosted desktops. He notes that server-hosted desktops are leading to the concept of desktops as a service. "One of the most interesting use cases of server-hosted desktop virtualization is a services model. If you can host desktops virtually aboard server hardware, why not host it somewhere that already has the infrastructure and data center capacity, such as a telco?" Rose said. "This idea of desktops as a service is gaining a lot of interest in the market. IDC believes it is very valid model; the technologies are coming together and I expect it will gain in adoption."
