SANRAD Upgrades iSCSI V-Switch With Enhanced StoragePro Software Services
Posted on: Monday, 24 January 2005, 12:00 CST
SANRAD Incorporated, a leader in developing and delivering iSCSI SAN solutions, today announced the release of Version 2.2 of StoragePro(TM) Software Services for its SANRAD iSCSI V-Switch(TM) product line, giving network and storage administrators an enhanced SAN management toolset to simplify the deployment and administration of scalable IP SANs.
SANRAD's StoragePro is agent and license free and operates within the iSCSI V-Switch. It provides a comprehensive suite of intelligent storage services and management tools, including protocol conversion and data replication, that enable IT professionals to easily build and administer an all-in-one scalable iSCSI SAN.
StoragePro gathers all FC, SCSI and iSCSI storage resources connected to the V-Switch into a single pool. From these pooled resources, administrators can define policies and services across all the storage devices, independent of the attached storage systems brand, type or protocol. Network administrators can define new logical volumes from the pooled storage resources. The logical storage volumes can take almost any shape and size, regardless of physical barriers such as RAID enclosures, physical disks, protocols and distance.
"This latest revision of StoragePro adds another layer of services on top of our volume creation, security and high-availability. New features enhance an administrator's ability to monitor and manage small to large scale IP SANs, making it very simple to precisely deliver the storage capacity and performance required to match application requirements," said Zophar Sante, SANRAD Vice President of Market Development. "Even in a complex IP SAN environment consisting of V-Switch clusters and multiple V-Switches dispersed geographically, the entire SAN infrastructure can be centrally administered, enabling organizations to manage storage performance, allocate network bandwidth and predict system degradation. Version 2.2 also builds the foundation for GDR, our global data replication and site recovery module for StoragePro releasing later this quarter."
StoragePro tools can be managed by a SANRAD browser-based GUI for simple administration of one or many V-Switches. A complete command line interface can also be used for customizing or automating StoragePro operations to synchronize with server applications. StoragePro also supports Telnet.
With a focus on the creation and centralized management of the IP SAN from the network layer, StoragePro enables an administrator to achieve a global view of the entire SAN infrastructure and configure, partition and dynamically allocate storage capacity from any device anywhere, any time, enabling organizations to minimize storage hardware expenditures by maximizing the utilization of existing storage resources.
StoragePro also allows administrators to monitor performance of the SAN to avoid traffic bottlenecks that limit application performance. The monitor function also constantly evaluates the health of the V-Switch components, including fans and power supplies, and uses SNMP to generate alarms and trigger email messages to administrators for real-time tracking.
The new StoragePro Services 2.2 software suite is now shipping as an embedded feature of every SANRAD V-Switch 2000 and V-Switch 3000. Existing V-Switch owners can download the new version from SANRAD's global support website.
