IPI Applauds Creation of MySpace, Attorneys General Internet Safety Task Force

DALLAS, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Social networking site MySpace.com announced yesterday a joint effort with 49 state attorneys general to step up efforts to protect children online.
Among the many proposed new safety measures includes the creation of an Internet Safety Technical Task Force to study online safety tools and development of technology to verify users' age and identity.
The Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI), a national free market public policy organization, applauds the expanded efforts to protect youngsters online and the creation of the task force.
Bartlett Cleland, Director of the Center for Technology Freedom said in a statement, "The Attorneys General have shown the better part of valor, and MySpace the goodwill and integrity, by supporting and creating a Taskforce to identify appropriate tools that can protect children."
"This, in addition to the establishment of key principles are fundamental in allowing for marketplace solutions and parental guidance, not only for MySpace and the social networking industry, but also for any interface that includes children," said Cleland.
Cleland has spent nearly a decade working towards empowering parents with real tools and real solutions for protecting their children through his membership on the board of the Internet Education Foundation and its website GetNetWise.org.
