No Bail Recall-Judge
The judge who freed Garry Weddell on bail said he could not remember why he granted bail to the police inspector.
Judge John Bevan insisted he had done nothing wrong but said he could not recall all the details of the case.
“I hope there will be transcripts of the two bail applications. These would explain things,” he said.
Weddell was granted bail with a surety of 200,000 ($NZ500,000), on condition that he hand in his gun licence and stay away from his mother-in-law.
The Crown Prosecution Service said it had “vigorously opposed” bail at every one of Weddell’s court appearances. Britain’s Attorney- General is investigating the case.
