BT Signs Contract With Dutch Government for Regional NNV-Network Expansion

Posted on: Friday, 18 January 2008, 09:00 CST

BT has announced that its contract with Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch Directorate for Public Works and Water Management, for the regional NNV-network will be expanded from 86 to 392 sites following the award of a sizeable part of the Overheidstelecommunicatie 2006 fixed data communication services cluster.

The new contract, which runs until 2011, is worth more than E12 million. Apart from internet access, it covers all xDSL and Ethernet connections between Rijkswaterstaat's data centers and IT sites, as well as those of the ministries of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, Social Affairs and Employment, and Economic Affairs.

The offered price-quality ratio, migration plans, future stability and reliability, and security of the network all played an important role in the tender for the Overheidstelecommunicatie 2006 (OT2006) fixed data communication services cluster.

The expansion starts in February 2008 and is expected to be complete in November 2008. The reliable data connections with speeds of up to 10 Gbps which BT will supply throughout the Netherlands will for instance be used by the government for office automation, dyke security, frost detection systems, dynamic traffic management and agricultural solutions.

Michel Coster, CEO of BT Benelux, said: "We are achieving excellent results within the public sector in the Netherlands. Currently for example, we can include the Dutch Police ICT group (Voorziening tot samenwerking Nederlandse Politie), the UWV (social security benefits administration agency) and the Dutch House of Representatives among our clients. We also supply services to international organizations such as NATO, the European Union and ESA, within the context of the Galileo and Egnos projects. The government sector is an important growth area for us. I am therefore very proud of this new contract."
