MySpace, the world's most popular social network, today announced that Jeff Berman has been appointed Executive Vice President of Marketing and Content of MySpace.
In his newly created role, Berman will be responsible for spearheading the development and implementation of marketing initiatives and campaigns for MySpace's more than 110 million users worldwide. He will also oversee the growth and expansion of popular MySpace franchises including Music, Film, Comedy, Impact Channel, MySpaceTV, and the newly launched MySpace Celebrity. Berman will report to MySpace's CEO and co-founder Chris DeWolfe.
"Jeff has played a large role in bringing innovative content and programming to MySpace and he will be a powerful force in shaping our marketing strategy going forward," said DeWolfe. "He brings unparalleled leadership experience and knowledge of the digital media space as well as the skills required to lead marketing for the world's largest social networking site."
Berman, 36, joined MySpace in 2006 as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, where he led the creation of the Impact Channel (http://impact.myspace.com), MySpace's hub for social and political engagement. The Impact Channel houses the official MySpace pages for all of the major party Presidential candidates and a variety of non profit organizations, as well as tools to enable voter registration, fundraising, and volunteering. Berman was instrumental in developing an innovative partnership with MTV to launch the groundbreaking Presidential Dialogue series (http://myspace.com/election2008). Each an hour in length and held on college campuses nationwide, the MySpace/MTV Presidential Dialogues provides a national audience with the opportunity to engage with frontrunner presidential candidates from both the Republican and Democratic parties by posing questions online, in real-time, via MySpaceIM.
In 2007, Berman was promoted to General Manager of MySpaceTV (http://myspacetv.com), where he oversaw the launch of the company's global video platform. In this role, Berman developed partnerships with leading media companies and managed several successful and innovative video content projects for MySpaceTV including Prom Queen, a scripted serialized mystery produced by Michael Eisner's studio Vuguru; Quarterlife, an online series created and owned by Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick; and Roommates, an original scripted web series co-developed by MySpace with Iron Sink Media.
"As the creation and consumption of culture are transformed, MySpace is the single most exciting place in the world to be," said Berman. "MySpace isn't just the Internet's largest and most vibrant global community, it's an exhilarating place to work and I'm thrilled to be here."
Before joining MySpace, Berman ran his own strategic, political, and crisis communications consulting firm working with a range of non-profit, political, and private interests. From 2001-2005, he served as Chief Counsel to U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer and Staff Director of the Subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts. Prior to working on Capitol Hill, Berman was a public defender and served as an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center.
Berman received a J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. from Connecticut College. He and his wife Melissa reside in Los Angeles with their son.
