JUSTICE Secretary Jack Straw is to meet MPs to discuss the recent murder of Warrington man Garry Newlove by a teenager who had been released on bail.

The move follows a complaint by Helen Jones, Labour MP for Warrington North, about the release of Adam Swellings, 19, hours before he murdered the father-of-three.

Mr Straw will also meet Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, where former Metropolitan Police inspector Garry Weddell is believed to have shot his mother-in-law while on bail.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice said: “Jack Straw has offered to meet Helen Jones and Garry Weddell’s MP to discuss issues of bail.”

It was also announced that the sentencing of Swellings and Stephen Sorton, and Jordan Cunliffe, will take place on February 11.
