Posted on: Monday, 31 January 2005, 09:00 CST
Cisco Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CSCO) today announced that the Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP) has been deployed for the new "Otoku Line" fixed telephone service offered by Japan Telecom Co., Ltd. of the Softbank Group since December 2004.
The Cisco ONS 15454 MSPP forms a metro access ring independently deployed on a nationwide basis and establishes a highly reliable optical network infrastructure that helps enable Japan Telecom to provide "Otoku Line" services.
The Cisco ONS 15454 is a multi-service SONET/SDH provisioning platform that efficiently provisions multiple services including voice, data and video optical networks. It provides advanced data services with Layer 2 and Layer 3 functions such as QoS and RPR using a compact form factor. In addition to being an MSPP, the Cisco ONS 15454 is also a multi-service transport platform (MSTP) supporting both native and intelligent DWDM functions, providing intelligent DWDM functions such as Reconfigurable Add/Drop Multiplexing (ROADM), in one transport platform.
By adopting the Cisco ONS 15454, Japan Telecom is able to build a high-capacity network that efficiently provides advanced services while simultaneously preparing optical infrastructure for future services.
