Lucent Technologies Wins China Unicom Expansion Contracts Valued at More Than $230 Million

BEIJING, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucent Technologies today announced that it has signed CDMA mobile network expansion contracts valued at more than $230 million with China Unicom. Under these agreements, part of the initial stage of China Unicom's phase III expansion, Lucent will supply CDMA2000(R) equipment to China Unicom's subsidiaries in six provinces including Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Shandong, Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Guangdong.
The contracts demonstrate the continued collaboration between China Unicom and Lucent Technologies. With this expansion, China Unicom will significantly improve the capacity and coverage of its network, enhancing network quality. China Unicom also will be able to deliver a variety of value-added data services such as video-on-demand, live streaming video and high-speed mobile Internet access to its subscribers.
