Repair Ships Sail to Broken ‘Net Cables
February 1, 2008
The owner of a damaged undersea telecommunications cable has sent repair ships to fix two breaks that hampered Internet traffic in India and the Middle East.
Flag Telecom said in a situation update that it was in the process of restoring customers who lost Internet service due to separate cable breaks off Alexandria, Egypt, and Dubai.
Repair ships were dispatched to the site of the breaks in the Europe-Asia cable and FALCON cable. The damage will require a few days to repair, Flag Telecom said.
Internet service was getting back to normal in both regions with data being rerouted around the damaged cables.
