Cable & Wireless Connect With FalconStor for Storage Consolidation, Centralized Management and Business Continuity

Posted on: Tuesday, 1 February 2005, 09:00 CST

Leading Global Telecommunications Company Chooses IPStor to Bring Order to its Former Direct-Attached Storage Environment

FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), a leading developer of network storage software solutions, today announced that Cable & Wireless, a leading global telecommunications company, has chosen FalconStor's IPStor(R) Enterprise Edition software as the storage foundation to manage its newly implemented storage area network.

Cable & Wireless' storage environment consisted of direct-attached storage and isolated islands of storage area network, with one StorageTek L180 tape library responsible for storing all backups in the allotted backup window. Numerous servers with their own local storage left the telecommunications company vulnerable to incomplete backups and potential data loss. Combined with a data growth rate doubling each year, Cable & Wireless determined to find a solution streamlining their storage environment, while laying the groundwork to achieve their objectives for centralized storage management, high availability and business continuity.

"The growth and nature of our business places a great demand on our IT environment, and the previous storage infrastructure became chaotic and a management drain for our IT staff," said Juan Miguel Poyatos, Southern Region GM at C&W. "IPStor has proved to alleviate the burden on our IT administrators by leveraging our existing resources and expertise, and pooling and provisioning storage capacity according to specific needs, while centralizing our storage management."

FalconStor teamed with Storage & Networking, a leading solutions integrator in Spain, to overhaul and optimize the storage environment of Cable & Wireless. The telecommunications company's multiplatform SAN environment now consists of Windows, Linux, and Solaris, with IPStor provisioning storage to application servers from Compaq, InfoTrend and EMC Clarion storage arrays. Cable & Wireless is planning to leverage FalconStor's VirtualTape Library solution, to consolidate the management of backup resources while enhancing the reliability of backup operations and accelerating the speed of data recovery, as well as remote replication between two data centers for additional data protection.
