APCON Introduces 288 Port Physical Layer Switch
PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ — APCON, Inc., a leading worldwide manufacturer of physical layer switch hardware and management software, today introduced the IntellaPatch 288. This 288-port, any-to-any, non-blocking physical layer switch is the largest on the market. With the IntellaPatch 288, network managers and test lab engineers can remotely manage network connections more easily and reconfigure the core of their network, the physical layer, quickly, easily, and at lower cost.
IntellaPatch 288, with increased port density, can be populated with up to 18 blades that support a wide array of protocols, including 1-, 2- and 4-Gb/s Fibre Channel, Ethernet from 10 Mb/s to 10 Gb/s, T1/E1/J1, SONET/SDH, and FDDI. The switch doubles the number of ports currently available in the IntellaPatch series, providing up to 288 any-port to any-port connections, always at full line speed, from protocol-specific and multi-protocol blades that are inserted into this 11U compact chassis.
Applications
The IntellaPatch 288 provides wire-once, any-to-any switching technology that benefits many applications by increasing test repeatability and reducing errors introduced due to repeated manual reconfigurations.
The switch is targeted to test lab environments that require automating complex test configurations at multiple data rates and protocols. The switch enables repeatable network reconfiguration and interoperability testing, saving test time and avoiding manual connection errors.
In enterprise networks, IntellaPatch 288 benefits network and IT managers by enabling electronic sharing, distribution, and remote management of monitoring and analysis equipment, such as protocol analyzers, probes, and intrusion detection systems (IDS).
Improved Access and Operation
IntellaPatch 288 adds new switch management, supported via an embedded Web browser GUI, which allows port-to-port connections to be electronically managed and controlled. The switch can be controlled remotely across any platform, using any operating system that supports a Web browser, including Windows, Linux, Solaris, and others.
An embedded programmatic interface in the IntellaPatch 288 supports scripting languages, including Java, TCL, PHP, PERL, and others. To add flexibility and to meet programmers’ needs, a Telnet-accessible command line interface allows an additional operation mode.
Rich Features Add Capability
Additional new Intellapatch 288 features include simultaneous access by multiple users, enhanced logging features, simple remote firmware upgrade support, and dual 10/100/1000 Ethernet control ports. A removable Flash card is also available for user logging and information storage.
