Fluke Networks (www.flukenetworks.com), the leading supplier of Ethernet test equipment to carriers and enterprises, announced today that it has joined the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF, www.MetroEthernetForum.org).
The company will bring its extensive experience in network testing and analysis to the rapidly expanding community of Ethernet equipment manufacturers and service providers. Fluke Networks has a long history of standards development in the telecommunications industry, and will play an active role in shaping carrier Ethernet standards. Fluke Networks also plans to help educate industry professionals about the testing and certification of carrier Ethernet services.
"With the number of Ethernet circuits growing at such dramatic rates, it is critical that carriers are ready to support them," said Nan Chen, President of the MEF. "Fluke Networks' experience in Ethernet testing will help the MEF continue to develop methods and procedures that will enable carriers to do so and enhance the confidence of customers in Ethernet solutions."
"Carriers around the world rely on Fluke Networks for vision into their networks, whether they are using our telephone test sets or our performance management systems," said Ed Sztuka, Fluke Networks' Vice-President of Marketing and Engineering for Communication Service Providers. "In addition, thousands of enterprises have standardized on our Ethernet solutions since we introduced the first handheld Ethernet tester in 1993. We are proud to play a leadership role in so many relevant areas, and feel Fluke Networks is uniquely positioned to contribute to the Metro Ethernet Forum."
MEF Membership will allow the telecommunications industry to benefit from Fluke Networks' knowledge and experience in establishing practical, technically sound industry standards. Fluke Networks' commitment to the to concept of meaningful standards was exemplified last month when two Fluke Networks' associates, Hugo Draye and Bob Jensen, were named recipients of the Harry J. Pfister Award for Excellence in the Telecommunications Industry. Draye and Jensen were recognized largely for their work in developing and implementing technical standards throughout the cable installation market.
Fluke Networks recently introduced its first tool specifically designed to support carrier Ethernet deployment, the MetroScope(TM) carrier Ethernet analyzer. This new portable analysis and troubleshooting tool offers savings of up to 40% for service providers deploying carrier Ethernet services.
