OKC University Meinders School of Business Offers Scholarships to Former Dell Employees

The Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University will offer $5,000 scholarships to qualified, laid-off Dell employees to pursue master’s or bachelor’s business degrees.

About 200 Dell employees are losing their jobs as the computer company eliminates the consumer sales division at its Oklahoma City site. The company will continue to have about 200 employees in Oklahoma City.

“While there is never any good news associated with being laid off, perhaps the Meinders School can help these former Dell employees use their time to prepare themselves for their next career opportunity,” said Vince Orza, dean of the Meinders School of Business.

“As we all know, success and failure has less to do with what life hands you and much more to do with how you respond to adversity,” he said.

“So we at Meinders School of Business are happy to offer a $5,000 scholarship to any individual laid off from Dell who meets our programs’ criteria for admission.”

OCU has offered scholarships or special programs to other people facing adverse situations, including college students displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
