Silicon Laboratories' ProSLIC Selected By TCL For VoIP Gateway Products

Posted on: Wednesday, 2 February 2005, 18:00 CST

Silicon Laboratories Inc. (Nasdaq:SLAB) today announced that TCL Communication Equipment Co., LTD, a leading consumer electronics manufacturer, has adopted Silicon Laboratories' Si3210 ProSLIC(R) solution for its new voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) gateway products. By implementing the Si3210, TCL is able to offer a globally compliant, highly-integrated VoIP gateway solution that enables voice over broadband.

Silicon Laboratories' ProSLIC products provide a complete telephone line interface for VoIP applications by integrating a subscriber line interface circuit (SLIC), codec and battery generation functionality into the industry's smallest, low-voltage single-chip CMOS IC. By offering software-programmable operation and integrated test and line monitoring, the ProSLIC products allow a single hardware design to be implemented worldwide while significantly reducing line provisioning and support costs for service providers.

"Offering unmatched integration and global programmability, Silicon Laboratories' ProSLIC solution is ideal for our new VoIP gateway products," said Bingyun Liu, chief technology officer of TCL. "Silicon Laboratories' easy-to-use, low-power, single-chip solution allows us to provide an innovative product to service providers, which ultimately lowers telephone usage costs for the consumer."

"Consumer broadband penetration is reaching new levels, increasing the opportunity for next generation voice services. These services require technology that is cost effective for consumers and highly reliable," said Dave Bresemann, vice president of Silicon Laboratories. "Silicon Laboratories leads the industry with easy-to-use, field proven and highly-programmable SLICs that enable equipment makers, such as TCL, to offer VoIP products that meet service providers' stringent requirements."

Silicon Laboratories' ProSLIC product family includes products for short and long loop applications and emerging wideband VoIP applications. The ProSLIC products are based on a patented architecture that results in one low-voltage, low-power CMOS device that reduces cost and minimizes board space when compared to traditional two-chip, bipolar solutions. The ProSLIC products offer software-configurable features including five REN internal ringing up to 90 volts, DTMF generation and decoding and a comprehensive set of telephony signaling capabilities for global operation with only one hardware solution.
