VeriSign to Set Up Internet Resolution Site in India

Internet infrastructure services provider VeriSign has announced plans to open a Regional Internet Resolution Site (RIRS) in India. The company said it plans to locate more than 100 similar sites around the world by 2010.

VeriSign said the new facility will aid traffic to .com and .net sites on the internet, improving performance and stability for users in the region. It said the RIRS will also help it to identify and isolate attacks on user infrastructure at an early stage.

The move is a part of the company’s Project Titan initiative to bolster internet infrastructure. Through the initiative, Verisign aims to increase its daily DNS query capacity from 400 billion queries a day to more than 4 trillion. Project Titan will also enable it to increase the aggregate network bandwidth of its primary resolution sites from over 20 Gbps to greater than 200 Gbps.
