VFW Taking Entries for Youth Award

ROCKLAND – The Ladies Auxiliary of the Old Colony Veterans of Foreign Wars Post is sponsoring the outstanding volunteer of the year contest.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens between 12 and 15, attend school in Massachusetts and be sponsored by an auxiliary member. Home- schooled students are eligible.

Applicants must submit a 150-word essay on the topic “Why I am a volunteer” that describes how their efforts excelled in 2007. Three letters of recommendation from the organization for which the student volunteered should be included.

The winner will be entered into the state round of judging, with a chance to compete in the national contest. The deadline to apply is today. For more information, call 781-878-3057.
