AMCC Announces New Industrial Temperature 10GbE LAN/WAN PHY Device S19263 for Metro-Ethernet and Carrier Grade Ethernet Applications
Posted on: Tuesday, 19 February 2008, 09:00 CST
Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ: AMCC), a global leader in embedded Power Architecture™ processing, optical transport and storage solutions, today announced a 10GbE PHY that is pin-to-pin compatible with the recently announced PEMAQUID S19258. The S19263 is a XAUI to XFI 10G LAN/WAN PHY industrial temperature device for 10GbE, 10G Fibre Channel, and WIS (OC-192/STM-64) network applications.
The S19263 represents AMCC's second device in its MEtrON (Metro Ethernet Optical Networks) product family. It is a highly integrated XAUI to XFI physical layer integrated circuit for Ethernet and Fibre Channel LAN and WAN applications based on SFP+ or XFP optical modules.
The S19253 complements AMCC's QT2025 LAN/WAN PHY with EDC by providing a solution that supports operation in a -40oC to +85oC industrial temperature environment, critical for Metro-Ethernet and Carrier Ethernet applications. It is also fully compliant to IEEE® 802.3-205 and XFP4.5 standards.
"Unlike climate controlled locations such as customer premises and data centers, industrial-grade components designed for LAN and WAN applications must meet telco-grade standards in order to ensure high reliability in extreme temperature environments," said Michael Howard, Principal Analyst and Co-Founder at Infonetics Research. "The AMCC design team ensured that the S19263 meets these industrial temperature requirements, while making the device pin-compatible with the recently announced PEMAQUID S19258 framer/mapper/PHY."
"As the convergence of Ethernet and SONET-based networks continue to accelerate, our customers have been requesting a 10GbE LAN/WAN PHY that can meet their need for a Metro-Ethernet and Carrier Grade Ethernet system and can function reliably in extreme temperature conditions," stated Neal Neslusan, Director of Transport Marketing at AMCC. "The S19263 clearly meets this requirement and is the latest example of why AMCC is becoming the supplier of choice for the 10 Gigabit Ethernet transport market."
The S19263 supports 10GBASE-SR/LR/ER and 10GBASE-SW/LW/EW fiber optic PMDs. It supports XFP modules and single mode fiber SFP+ modules and is forward compatible with AMCC's recently announced PEMAQUID S19258 10G Framer/Mapper/PHY device with built in G.709 GFEC and EFEC.
The S19263's mechanical and ball map configuration, as well as its register maps, are forward compatible with the PEMAQUID S19258. As a result, the new S19263 provides an easy migration path from XAUI to XFI 10G LAN/WAN to XAUI to XFI LAN/WAN/OTU-2 applications utilizing XFP and SFP+ optical modules.
With an integrated FRACn synthesizer, it requires only one low cost external reference oscillator to support 10G line rates from 9.954Gbps up to 10.52Gbps, while meeting SONET/SDH jitter requirements. In addition to this timing flexibility, the S19263 device features WIS framing and 10GbE LAN pass-thru modes.
As with PEMAQUID S19258, the S19263 is available in a 19x19 package, and consumes less than 2.5 watts in a typical LAN application.
The S19263 will begin sampling in March 2008 to alpha customers. For more information about the S19263 and other AMCC transport products go to http://www.amcc.com/Products/transport.html.
The recently announced PEMAQUID S19258 will be featured in demonstrations on the exhibit floor at AMCC's booth # 3015 at the upcoming Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC) and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) in San Diego, February 26 -- 28. AMCC's four networking demonstrations will feature:
The PEMAQUID S19258 demonstration will involve the encapsulation of a 10GbE data stream into an OTU2 frame and the error free transmission of the OTU2 signal over a length of Single Mode Fiber. The demonstration will highlight PEMAQUID's cost, power, and space effectiveness for Ethernet to OTN convergence.
The QT2025 and QT2225 demonstration shows the products in multiple applications, all targeted to enable a seamless upgrade of existing equipment to 10GbE data rates. This includes transmitting serial 10Gbps data over 15m of SFP+ passive Twinax cable for cost-effective data center connectivity, showcasing the EDC capability in a 10GBASE-LRM application, and transmitting live video signals at 10Gbps rates over a backplane in a 10GBASE-KR application.
The Drava demonstration will involve the aggregation of multiple OC-3 and OC-12 signals into an OC-48 signal and the error free transmission of the OC-48 signal over a length of Single Mode Fiber. The demonstration will highlight Drava's cost, power and space savings due to its high level of integration of OC-3/12/48 SONET/SDH compliant PHYs with its Framer/Pointer Processor functions.
The S4882 demonstration will showcase the device's auto frequency acquisition capability together with its continuous rate support from 10Mbps to 4.25Gbps. This device is truly a "one-part-fits-all" CDR/PHY solution for applications ranging from SONET/SDH, Ethernet and Fiber Channel to Digital Video and more.
Event attendees who would like to schedule individual appointments to view the demos and learn more about AMCC's products should email or call the company or media contacts listed below.
