Parvus to Introduce RiderNet(R) DepotLink(TM) Mobile Wireless Data Transfer at APTA TransITech Product Showcase Feb 20-22

Posted on: Tuesday, 19 February 2008, 12:00 CST

Parvus Corporation today announced that it will formally introduce its RiderNet(R) DepotLink(TM) mobile wireless data transfer technology at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) TransITech Conference Feb 20-22 at the Sheraton Park Hotel Anaheim Resort. Parvus' RiderNet^3 Product Manager Bart Robison will address conference attendees Feb 22 as part of the conference session focused on "Providing Wireless Internet Services on Transit."

"To ensure a successful deployment of a wireless Internet service in a transit environment, transportation authorities should select the appropriate equipment that meets their long-term Wi-Fi strategy," said Robison. "Parvus is pleased to unveil DepotLink technology, which integrates state-of-the-art passenger Wi-Fi equipment with disparate legacy on-board systems to empower advanced Wi-Fi applications."

Patent-pending DepotLink enables RiderNet intelligent mobile access points to serve as passenger Wi-Fi hot spots and also as a central communications gateway for all on-board transit technology, either on the road or at the depot. Legacy devices, such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Digital Video Recorders (DVR), Automatic Vehicle Locators (AVL), Automatic Passenger Counters (APC), and Electronic Fee Collectors (EFC) can now connect to high-speed cellular networks or to 802.11 transit yard networks and enable wireless collection of operational data for traditionally non-wireless devices.

The DepotLink introduction comes on the heels of Parvus' first deployment onboard 60 over-the-road express commuter coaches at the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). DepotLink provides UTA with advanced wireless functionality for its fleet operations to download route and schedule adherence data from each bus's mobile data computer using the same Wi-Fi router and roof antenna as for passenger Wi-Fi. Upon returning to any of UTA's three bus yards, each wireless router equipped with Parvus DepotLink(TM) software becomes a wireless download system as it detects and authenticates with UTA's bus garage network. This multi-purpose use of a single Wi-Fi system eliminates the need for multiple antennas or wireless equipment and is a first of its kind in the transit industry.

RiderNet^3 ("RiderNet cubed") is Parvus' third-generation transit Wi-Fi solution for implementing high-speed Internet access onboard mass transit vehicles (bus, train). The product uses an EV-DO Revision A cellular backhaul from Sprint's Power Vision (SM) network, delivering typical download speeds of 450-800 kbps. Passengers can connect to the Internet using laptop computers, cellular phones, PDAs, or other Wi-Fi enabled devices as they ride to their destinations.

Parvus is part of the Eurotech Group, which has a long history in the traffic and public transportation field, providing vehicle communication, location tracking, and video surveillance systems, as well as mobile internet access points and passenger counting devices. Parvus products can be found at a variety of public transit authorities nationwide, including the Foothill Transit, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Monterey-Salinas Transit, New Jersey Transit Authority, New York Metropolitan Transportation Agency, Santa Cruz Metro, Utah Transit Authority, among others.
