NewsGator Technologies, Inc. today announced that Cox Newspapers will use NewsGator's widget services to build and track a series of viral widgets for a number of its flagship newspapers, including The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Austin American-Statesman, The Palm Beach Post and Dayton Daily News.
The first deployment of Cox's widgets will be the debut of its viral political widgets. Available now at http://www.palmbeachpost.com/politics/content/news/politics/08_reports.html , these widgets feature breaking news and videos about each of the presidential primary candidates and offer readers the ability to access the latest news on their favorite candidates aggregated from across all of Cox's newspaper properties. With one click, readers can add these widgets to their favorite networking and personalized Web sites such as MySpace, Facebook and iGoogle.
NewsGator widget services offer Cox extended brand reach, insight into user interaction with content, reporting capabilities that provide clear metrics on click-through rates and additional monetization opportunities through ad serving and increased page views. With NewsGator, Cox can syndicate content across their newspaper properties, which include 17 daily and 25 non-daily newspapers, providing an easy way to share articles and breaking news stories with a number of Web sites.
"Cox Newspapers needed a way to tap into the resources of all of our newspaper properties, and let everyone virally share and aggregate content for our online readers," said Tonya Echols, executive director, COXnet - Cox Newspapers. "We were also looking for new ways to increase the opportunities for ad revenue and customer interaction, and NewsGator gave us an innovative way to drive new traffic, increase page views and better engage our audience."
"Cox Newspapers is the latest in a long list of newspaper companies that are seeing big benefits from putting their content out in widget form," said Jeff Nolan, vice president, NewsGator Software-as-a-Service. "Widgets bring content to readers in the start pages and social networks they are increasingly using and the result is a powerful experience, driven by the user, with measurable adoption and interaction rates that translate into extended reach and better monetization for newspapers. A cornerstone of next generation media is viral adoption of content through widgets and we're proud to count more than 100 companies using NewsGator services to stay ahead of their competition in this fast-changing market."
