Avanex(R) Corporation Unveils SFF Tunable Transponder
Avanex Corporation (NASDAQ:AVNX), a pioneering provider of intelligent photonic solutions enabling next-generation optical networks, today broadened its tunable transponder portfolio by unveiling its line of small form factor (SFF) tunable transponders at OFC/NFOEC 2008 Expo. The SFF transponder products offer all of the best-in-class performance of the large format factor (LFF) Avanex PowerReach 1280 in a significantly smaller footprint, effectively allowing customers to double line card port density to help meet exploding demand in metropolitan markets.
The PowerReach 2280 Tunable transponder operates over all data rates from 9.9 -11.3 Gb/s and is housed in a 300-pin multi-source agreement (MSA) SFF package (3 x 2.2 in) with standard electrical interfaces. The SFF PowerReach 2280 integrates the advanced Avanex XS-10 lithium niobate modulator to deliver best-in-class reach, extinction rate, eye quality, thermal dissipation, OSNR system performance, and EOL Rx sensitivity. The 2280 transponder is available with zero or negative chirp for transmission flexibility and can be ordered with either APD or PIN receiver functionality.
Avanex General Manager of Transmission products, Jeff Zack, said, “The PowerReach 2280 transponder delivers the benefits of a reduced form factor, best-in-class performance at reduced cost. In addition, the product also comes with a host of advanced design features to provide the OEM customer with highly reliable, long reach transmission network solutions. These features include a variety of programmable I2C functions compatible with the 300-pin MSA I2C specification edition 4.2, multi-rate jitter filtering, and transmit and receive options such as analog monitoring, adjustable performance parameters, and digital controls.”
Avanex Senior Vice President of Sales, Scott Parker, added, “The PowerReach 2280 SFF tunable transponder represents another example of the Avanex drive to create highly cost-sensitive, smart, and flexible products that enable the system provider to manage their operational expenses while they scale their application quickly. The technical strengths of the 2280 plus synergies with products like the XS-10 lithium niobate modulator, all add up to a very attractive value proposition for our customers.”
A live demonstration of the PowerReach 2280 will be on display at the OFC/NFOEC 2008 Expo at the San Diego Convention Center, February 26th-28th, 2008 in Booth 1734, Hall C.
