Mercury Computer Systems Introduces MCOE 6.0
Posted on: Monday, 22 September 2003, 06:00 CDT
CHELMSFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 2003--Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRCY), announced today the release of the MCOE(TM) 6.0 software, a new and enhanced version of its multicomputer operating environment that provides expanded development support for embedded software standards including the Linux(R) operating system standard and the Data Reorganization Interface (DRI). The MCOE multicomputer operating environment now provides users with a more powerful development environment, a more open architecture, increased ease of use, and better tool integration.
"With DRI and Linux, Mercury's software environment now provides the broadest support for software standards in the high-performance embedded computing industry," said Richard Jaenicke, director of product marketing, Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. "Mercury continues to demonstrate its proactive commitment to standards by first contributing to and then implementing emerging industry standards. Through this leadership position and investment in innovation, Mercury provides its customers with a broad choice of technologies that maximize the combination of openness and high performance."
Mercury customers already had the choice of a broad range of industry software standards support that includes the POSIX portable operating system interface, the Vector Signal and Image Processing Library (VSIPL) specification, the Message Passing Interface (MPI) middleware, and the CORBA(R) architecture. For hardware standards, the MCOE 6.0 software adds the RapidIO(R) switch fabric to the list of supported electrical communication protocols. For example, the MCOE 6.0 software supports the previously announced ImpactRT(TM) 3100 system, the world's first RapidIO-based multicomputer. The RapidIO interconnect is the only next-generation switch fabric to be ratified by an official standards organization.
When combined with Mercury's RACE++(R) or industry standard RapidIO switch fabrics, the MCOE environment provides the industry with the highest performance signal and image processing platform. The MCOE software enables optimized communication among multiple processors, memory, and I/O over a variety of industry protocol standards such as VME, PCI, Fibre Channel, RACEway, RACE++, and RapidIO.
MCOE Enhancements
MCOE, or multicomputer operating environment, is a new name for Mercury's expanded collection of software tools and libraries. In addition to Linux, four other mainstream operating systems - including Solaris(TM), VxWorks(R), Windows(R) 2000, and Windows XP - are supported on host processors working in conjunction with the POSIX-based MCexec(TM) kernel running on compute nodes.
Together with the MCOE environment, the new CheckMC(TM) hardware diagnostic tool increases error detection and isolation for RapidIO-based and VantageRT (TM) systems. The CheckMC tool is a Flash-based utility that works in an inside-out fashion to methodically verify the working operation of an entire Mercury multicomputer system. Each processor board in the system is able to run CheckMC in parallel as the host boots to speed the system boot time.
The MCOE environment also supports new versions of Mercury's layered software products, offering customers more value and increased productivity. The new DevPak software packages bundle the operating environment along with several software-layered products that were previously sold separately. These newly bundled items include an 8-CE (compute element) version of the Parallel Acceleration System (PAS(TM)), the Green Hills C compiler; Green Hills MULTI(R) Trace Analysis Tool & Library (TATL(TM)); the Mercury Supervisor tool; and all of the hardware diagnostics. Capacity upgrades for PAS and additional compiler licenses are still available a la carte as are additional licenses for other tools and libraries.
The MCOE 6.0 software release is currently shipping and available 30 days after receipt of order (ARO).
