Over 50 Vendors Developing Linux Devices With Trolltech Software; Leading Mobile Phone Technologies Built on Linux/Qtopia Platform Driving Expansion
Posted on: Monday, 14 February 2005, 06:00 CST
Trolltech(R), a provider of leading technologies for Linux and cross-platform software development, today announced that over 50 vendors are designing, building or shipping devices based on Qtopia(R) and related Trolltech software for embedded Linux. Of these, more than 20 companies are mobile phone designers and manufacturers, signaling a surge in the market for handsets built on the popular open source Linux operating system.
Trolltech will highlight Qtopia and other Trolltech software for embedded Linux this week at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France in stand L24, Hall 4 and at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in Boston in booth 820.
"The large number of leading organizations that are building new phones and other technologies on Linux and Qtopia will dispel any lingering doubt that Linux is going to be a core platform for mobile devices," said Haavard Nord, Trolltech CEO. "2005 will be an important year for embedded Linux, and we are pleased that Qtopia is quickly becoming the standard software platform for Linux devices, allowing vendors to customize and innovate to an extent that was previously not possible."
Trolltech's award-winning Qtopia software is a complete, customizable development environment and user interface for mobile phones and personal digital assistants. Qtopia lets manufacturers and service providers cost-effectively develop Linux-based devices while maintaining complete control of branding and user interface design. It extends the flexibility and cost-savings benefits of Linux to the mobile market, serving as an alternative to proprietary software platforms such as Windows Mobile and Symbian.
Global Leaders Innovating with Linux and Trolltech Software
Many of the world's leading companies, including Samsung Electronics, Infineon, Philips and Motorola, are developing Linux-based technologies with Qtopia or other Trolltech software, including:
