Woman Arrested for Scamming Old Man
A New York woman was charged for committing a hate crime after she allegedly tried to scam an ill 93-year-old man out of $800,000, it was reported.
Alexandra Gilmore, 36, was accused of abusing an elderly man, possession of stolen property and other crimes after she allegedly pretended to be Artee McKoy’s daughter to steal his money, the New York Post reported Thursday.
Gilmore allegedly told McKoy’s mortgage company she was his daughter so she could obtain cash gifts from her dad and separately opened a bank account and credit cards in his name, the report said.
It was reported that she also allegedly refinanced McKoy’s Bayside home twice and pocketed money after she purchased and sold his home in Jamaica through a straw buyer named Rebecca Tharpe.
Police arrested Tharpe in early February and posted $25,000 bail. Gilmore was detained on $100,000 bail and both could be be given up to 25 years in prison if sentenced.
