WilTel Launches Managed, End-to-End Ethernet Service for Enterprises; Nationwide Solution Extends Native Ethernet to Customer Premise
Posted on: Monday, 14 February 2005, 09:00 CST
WilTel Communications announced today the enhancement of its Ethernet services portfolio with the launch of Managed EWAN, a fully monitored and managed, premise-to-premise Ethernet solution supported with end-to-end service level agreements (SLAs). It provides enterprises with Ethernet connectivity directly to their premises, removing one of the most significant cost and resource-intensive barriers facing enterprise IT network managers.
Managed EWAN is an extension of WilTel's innovative Ethernet Wide Area Network (EWAN) service, which provides point-to-point Ethernet (E-Line) services and multipoint Ethernet (E-LAN) services along with seamless frame relay/ATM interworking capabilities.
"Enterprises have had limited choices when it comes to contracting for Ethernet services, and in particular, for multipoint Ethernet services to their various corporate locations," said Brian Van Steen, senior analyst at RHK. "WilTel's Managed EWAN service addresses this situation by offering national managed Ethernet services with improved options for reaching a greater number of enterprise locations."
Managed EWAN incorporates WilTel-deployed and managed equipment from Overture Networks on the customer premise, with native Ethernet interfaces that can support Ethernet circuits up to 1 Gbps in flexible 1 Mbps increments. The solution also provides customers direct Ethernet access to WilTel's dedicated Internet access and MPLS IP VPN services, enabling a cost-effective means of aggregating numerous services over one access facility.
"Managed EWAN delivers on two major needs for enterprises -- simplified network management and reduction of capital costs and expenses," said Tony Tomae, senior vice president of marketing for WilTel. "This is an example of WilTel's expertise in developing wide-area network solutions that are tailored to meet the needs of enterprise customers."
Managed EWAN is ideal for enterprise customers with a need for efficient, multipoint connectivity applications such as data center networking. When combined with WilTel's web-based customer management tool Direct Network Access(SM) (DNA), the solution gives enterprises unmatched visibility and control over their Ethernet network. DNA enables customers to track order progress, order Ethernet virtual circuits (EVCs), monitor network utilization, create trouble tickets and view billing. DNA also supports WilTel's full portfolio of data, IP and voice services.
WilTel provides enterprise customers with an expanding portfolio of managed network solutions designed to meet specific wide-area network needs while reducing capital and operating expenses. In addition to Managed CPE-IP and Managed Security, WilTel recently launched StorageXtend(SM), a storage extension solution over SONET, and Managed Private Line, an end-to-end managed and monitored private line service, to meet large enterprises' growing demand for efficient, next-generation network solutions.
