Supermicro Adds VMware Virtualization to SuperServers
High-performance server vendor Super Micro Computer has added VMware virtualization to its SuperServer and Server Building Block products.
SuperMicro’s Server Building Block Solutions family comprises 15 serverboard and system models based on Intel’s 3210/3200 chipset. Supermicro said the addition of VMware ESX Server 3i will enable enterprises to reduce IT space requirements.
Supermicro CEO Charles Liang said that integrated with VMware’s virtualization software, the company’s servers will also offer enhanced functionality and value to the channel. “By combining our high-efficiency, high-capacity memory, storage and I/O hardware designs and virtualization can increase the resource utilization of a powerful system,” he said.
Brian Byun, vice president of global partners and solutions at VMware, said: “By embedding VMware software into Supermicro hardware, customers can deploy virtualization out of the box and be creating virtual machines within minutes.”
