RANDOLPH – Two committees have been formed to campaign in favor of a proposed $5.48 million Proposition 21/2 override for school system on the April 1 town election ballot.

School committee Chairman Larry Azer and committee member Marybeth Nearen are the officers of “Support Our Schools.”

Azer said he set up the committee because there wasn’t one in place.

“Time is of the essence,” Azer said. “It’s less than eight weeks to the election, and we’ve got to get moving.”

On Wednesday, Kathy Haire filed organizational papers with the town clerk’s office for “Support a Future for Randolph.” It’s the same name used by the group that campaigned for last year’s failed override attempt.

“The goal is to get an override passed and provide for the town, especially the schools, the financial resources they need,” she said.

The override would increase residential taxes by 14.4 percent, or $444 per year for a home assessed at $321,000.
