Tokyo, Aug. 6 (Jiji Press)--U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp.'s Japanese unit has appointed Kazuhiko Oigawa, a former official of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as the head of a new division established to liaise with the government, it was learned Wednesday.
The apparent motive for Oigawa's appointment is the urgent need for the Japanese unit, Microsoft Co., to reinforce its government policy-related measures now that the Japanese government is considering adopting the Linux operating system for its envisioned e- government project, instead of Microsoft's Windows OS.
Oigawa, who is close to the government, is expected to play a crucial role in leading a division that advises government agencies on information technology-related policies.
Oigawa, 39, joined the ministry in 1988. He served as assistant chief of the ministry's distribution policy division until last March.
