Research and Markets: Gain Insight in to Austar United Communications Ltd

Posted on: Wednesday, 5 March 2008, 09:00 CST

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c84989) has announced the addition of "Austar United Communications Ltd" to their offering.

Austar United Communications is Australia's second largest subscription TV operator after Foxtel. The company offers primarily digital satellite services to customers in regional and rural areas. It also offers dial-up Internet and mobile telephone services. Austar is the sole provider of subscription television services in substantially all of its markets - regional and rural Australia, and capital cities Hobart and Darwin. Its service area comprises around 2.5 million homes, around one-third of the Australian market, primarily using digital satellite technology. Austar also operates a digital cable network in Darwin. Austar announced it had selected Nortel Networks as its preferred vendor for its proposed WiMAX broadband network in regional Australia in June 2007. In January 2008 Austar announced that it had decided to sell its entire WiMAX regional wireless broadband spectrum in the 2.3GHz and 3.5GHz spectrum bands to the Optus led OPEL consortium for $65 million.
