Federated States of Micronesia - Telecoms Market Overview & Statistics Available Now

Posted on: Thursday, 6 March 2008, 06:00 CST

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c85036) has announced the addition of "Federated States of Micronesia - Telecoms Market Overview & Statistics" to their offering.

All telecommunications services in Micronesia are provided by government-owned FSM Telecom (FSMTC), including Internet and mobile telephony. The telecommunications infrastructure compares favourably with many of the islands in the South Pacific region. Great distances between islands and their isolated location coupled with mountainous terrain and dense jungle add to the difficulties in deploying cost-effective national communications infrastructure. In 2005 FSMTC installed a wireless Internet service and conducted a soft launch of a Digital Wireless Broadband TV service in Yap. In November 2006 Huawei began to replace and upgrade FSMTC's existing GSM network to a GSM/GPRS/EDGE network with high speed packet data service capabilities. Network construction is scheduled to be completed in January 2008. Up-to-date statistics for fixed line telephone services are currently not available in this report. Please also note that this report is updated infrequently due to limited availability of information on the local telecoms market.
