High-End Ethernet Switch Market Grows 12 Percent in 4Q04, According to Dell'Oro Group; Ethernet Switch Modular Gigabit Port Shipments Surpass Those of Modular Fast Ethernet

A newly published report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, reveals that the market for high-end modular Gigabit and modular 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches, grew strongly despite a flat overall market.
According to the Dell'Oro Group report, shipments of modular Gigabit ports exceeded those of modular Fast Ethernet ports for the first time. In addition, shipments of modular 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports grew in excess of 70 percent for the second quarter in a row.
"Attractive price points are making the decision to upgrade to modular Gigabit a relatively easy one for many enterprises, as the total per-port average selling price of modular Gigabit is currently only twice that of modular Fast Ethernet," said Seamus Crehan, Director of Ethernet Switch research at Dell'Oro Group.
