MetaNotes.Com Wins Best ''Experimental'' Site at SXSW Interactive Awards

Posted on: Monday, 10 March 2008, 12:00 CDT

MetaNotes.com, the revolutionary new way to take notes and share them instantly across the Internet, was named the top "Experimental" website by a panel of judges at the 2008 SXSW Interactive Awards on Sunday evening. The site was recognized as the most "cutting-edge and trend-setting" among five finalists culled from hundreds of entries for "challenging our perceptions of the web."

"We set out to make brainstorming and collaboration quick, fun, and easy by creating a living information system that renders existing wiki technologies obsolete," said Srini Kumar, CEO of MetaNotes.com. "We're thrilled that SXSW sees the same future that we do."

MetaNotes is "social graph paper" on which users can paste stickynotes containing text, images, videos, and widgets, creating scrapbooks to track and remember any topic. When you post a note, EVERYONE sees it INSTANTLY. Registration is free.

The site was launched at the Future of Web Apps conference in Miami at the end of February and is currently optimized for the Firefox Web browser at www.metanotes.com. It is integrated with Twitter, Facebook, Gmail, Pownce, and Photobucket, as well as a unique "Time Log" panel that functions as "a private Twitter" accessible from any smartphone.

The idea for MetaNotes came from Kumar's experience as an MBA student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School. Tired of one-dimensional scrolling, he began a blog called "metanotes" using Microsoft Excel as a publishing platform because it let him break out into horizontal space. CTO John Beppu, across the country in Pasadena, created a prototype based on the specifications in the blog, and MetaNotes the web application was born.

One year later, the site is poised to make a major impact.

Kumar and Beppu are joined by VP - Marketing Emery Dora and VP - Network Development Matt Madsen, both UNC Kenan-Flagler MBAs (2007).

An Enterprise Edition will be introduced later this year to help companies handle the myriad issues arising from telecommuting and the increasingly global economy.

The 11th Annual SXSW Web Awards were presented by Adobe at the Hilton Austin Downtown.

MetaNotes.com is a GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE ECOSYSTEM that will add value to the experience of any Web user challenged with information overload.
