Verizon Business plans to upgrade fiber-optic networks for Petersburg city public schools in the US, providing increased capacity and reliability, and access to high-speed network services.
Under a contract valued at about $0.35 million over three years, Verizon Business is upgrading the school district's infrastructure from a copper-based asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network to a fiber-optic-based ethernet network.
Alex Coleman, senior vice president for Verizon Business's government and education organization, said: "The students and teachers of Petersburg will have access to state-of-the-art fiber-optic technology to take advantage of applications like video conferencing and distance-learning tools. This upgrade positions the district for growth for years to come."
