Fuser Unveils New MySpace Application That Enables Users to View Facebook Messages From Their MySpace Page

BOULDER, Colo., March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The developers of Fuser.com, a free and innovative online tool that enables Internet users to consolidate their e-mail and social networking accounts into a single online inbox, today announced the launch of the Fuser MySpace application that allows MySpace users to view Facebook messages and wall posts from their MySpace page. The idea for the Fuser MySpace application was spurred in part by the results of a national third-party survey that examined social networking usage trends and preferences among 13-42 year-olds. According to the survey results, social networking users continue to use both MySpace and Facebook, despite strong personal preferences that favor one site over the other. Roughly 62 percent of respondents use both MySpace and Facebook on a regular basis, despite the fact that the majority of people surveyed (65 percent) selected Facebook as their favorite social networking site. 29 percent of respondents chose MySpace as their favorite. The users who were active on both sites cited their desire to stay connected to friends and family who were also active there as the main reason for maintaining their dual social networking activity.
The study of 1,100 13-42 year olds was conducted in February 2008 by the developers of Fuser.com. Additional survey findings include:
* 84 percent of 13-42 year olds surveyed use Facebook and 75 percent use MySpace * MySpace is still the favorite among teenage users (13-17 years old). * 71 of Facebook users spend three or more hours per week on Facebook * 45 percent of MySpace users spend three or more hours per week on MySpace * 93 percent of Facebook users have applications installed on their Facebook profile page
"The desire to stay connected to friends and family is extremely strong for social networking users and often outweighs personal preferences of one site over the other," said Jeff Herman, president of Fuser. Social Networking Preferences by Age Group
According to survey results, MySpace proved to be the preferred site for high school age respondents (13-17 years old) with 82 percent indicating they have a MySpace profile and 40 percent of those spending three or more hours per week on the site. 52 percent of this age group indicated that their favorite social networking site is MySpace (34 percent chose Facebook), with the number one reason being it is where the majority of their friends are.
Among college aged (18-21 years old) respondents, Facebook and MySpace seem to have similar market share. 75 percent of college-aged respondents indicated they use Facebook and 71 percent of them spend three or more hours per week on the site, while 77 percent use MySpace and 50 percent of them spend three or more hours per week on that site. When asked to choose their preferred social networking site, 56 percent indicated their favorite is Facebook; the top reason being it is where the majority of their friends are.
