MobileWebSurf Net Appliance Fully Mobilizes Enterprise Workforces from Any Mobile Device

Posted on: Thursday, 18 September 2003, 06:00 CDT

LA JOLLA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2003--

Appliance is "Almost as Simple to Implement as a Consumer-Grade Wi-Fi Gateway" But Allows Multimodal Access to Voice, Data, Email, and

SMS/MMS

MobileWebSurf, a leading provider of mobile application infrastructure, today announced MobileWebSurf Net Appliance(TM) for the enterprise market at DEMOmobile. Net Appliance allows mobile workforces access to the data and other information they need--such as the Internet or corporate intranets and databases--to do their jobs effectively.

DEMOmobile is an annual in-depth mobile conference exploring the technologies and people behind some of the most significant products and trends to emerge and affect the mobile and wireless markets. The DEMOmobile conference is September 17-19 in La Jolla, California.

MobileWebSurf Net Appliance allows enterprises to have seamless access to email, enterprise software, and corporate databases over cellular, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth(R) networks in a variety of modes, including voice, data, email, and SMS/MMS. MobileWebSurf Net Appliance is a scaled-down version of MobileWebSurf WorldCruiser(TM) technology for the telecommunications industry.

Unlike previous solutions that require additional hardware and software to work in the enterprise setting, MobileWebSurf Net Appliance is a plug-and-play solution--no additional technology is required. Automated and device agnostic, Net Appliance can be deployed quickly and easily into existing infrastructure to increase efficiency and drive down total-cost. An enterprise's mobile workforce will see immediate gains in their productivity and the enterprise will see an increase in the bottom-line.

"Gartner estimates that the mobile infrastructure market will grow to about $39.4 billion in 2006 as a result of an increase in voice and data usage," said Paul Dittner, mobile communications analyst at Gartner. "Companies that offer a multimodal solution--wireless data, email, voice, and messaging services--in an integrated platform have the potential to gain market share in a continuingly challenging market."

Benefits for Enterprises

Enterprises can implement MobileWebSurf Net Appliance easily with minimal up-front expenditure. Additional benefits include:

-- Security across all documents and content

-- A generic solution which does not require any tagging or

authoring which have encumbered competitors and enterprises in

the past

-- A pleasant user experience adapting to any mobile device

whether it is the latest version of a color PDA or an older

gray-scale cellular phone

-- Deployment of localized versions

-- It is a highly scalable, enabling enterprises to expand mobile

service incrementally

"Net Appliance is almost as simple to implement as a consumer-grade Wi-Fi gateway, but with the functionality and features required for the enterprise mobile workforce," said Rich Martini, partner at Altamont Land Associates, a land development company. "With Net Appliance, we now have access to back-end files and databases, in addition to email--all from our cell phones. The technology has enabled us to become more efficient; with minimal up-front expenditure and a quick and easy deployment, Net Appliance offers a great return on investment."

Net Appliance is particularly suited to enterprises where workers are away from their PCs or laptops, but who still require access to enterprise applications or the Internet to do their jobs. Particular industries that will see improvements to worker productivity include:

-- Retail stores

-- Hospitals and healthcare facilities

-- Construction and building industries

-- Utility companies

-- Package delivery companies

-- Banks and financial institutions

-- Any company with a mobile sales force

"The benefits for businesses cannot be underestimated," said Pavan Mandhani, COO of MobileWebSurf. "Mobile workers no longer need a cell phone to get calls and check voice mail, a Blackberry to get email, and a PDA to keep their calendars. The result? Workers carry around one device and the enterprise has a more productive workforce--this is a win-win for everyone."

Net Appliance is supported on Windows NT(R), Windows 2000(R), Linux, and Solaris.

Cost and Availability

Net Appliance is available immediately, starting at $1000 for one modality.
