SHANGHAI, China and ATLANTA, Georgia, February 23 /PRNewswire/ -- China Netcom (CNC), China's second largest service provider, has announced the completion of the first stage of its GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network: ITU-T G.984.x) deployment linking 15 cities in the north of the country. Using the modular OptimateSM suite of products from leading provider FlexLight Networks, CNC has converged the delivery of voice, data and video as part of a year long project, and will connect a further six cities in the coming months.
Having tested technology from a number of equipment providers, CNC selected Optimate because it provided the company with the most economical, scaleable and reliable way to deliver voice, data and video services over a single fibre. Optimate transports high speed Ethernet data, Video and TDM services over PON while guaranteeing the E1 Performance level (Jitter and Delay) that CNC customers have come to expect from TDM services and private lines.
CNC recently published a white paper titled, "Using GPON to Build A Broadband Access Network" in CATV Technology, organized by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television. A translated copy of the paper can be found on FlexLight's home page: http://www.flexlight-networks.com/ In this paper, CNC espoused the following main benefits for FlexLight's GPON:
- GPON can provision all CNC's services in their native formats and transport them across a single access fibre.
- GPON is cost-effective (CAPEX & OPEX) due to its effective fiber usage.
- Running a single GPON architecture is easier and more cost-effective for CNC than running three different networks for voice, data and video.
Michael Camp, President and CEO of FlexLight Networks, Inc., explains, "The successful completion of the first stage of CNC's deployment is a huge endorsement of the technology as a reliable and cost-effective access technology. Our scaleable, future proof Optimate solution provides telecoms operators, cable operators and MSOs with the perfect technology to solve today's access dilemmas, while providing them with a stable platform on which to base future network upgrades."
