Zitgist Names Michael Bergman New CEO

BURLINGTON, Mass., March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Zitgist LLC announced today that it has appointed Michael K. Bergman as its new CEO, effective immediately. The announcement was made by Kingsley Idehen, President and CEO of OpenLink Software, Inc., and chairman of Zitgist.

"Filling the position of CEO at Zitgist is a critical step in the overall corporate development of this Semantic Web technology startup," said Idehen. Mr. Bergman began his career in environmental policy and electric utility and energy technologies. As head of research for a major energy association in the 1980s, he began funding and managing large-scale software development projects. Since then, his software development and management experience includes products in semantic Web technologies, Internet search tools, data warehousing, bioinformatics, platform-independent user interfaces, accounting, finance, management, planning, electronic mapping and technical areas.

Mr. Bergman previously founded and ran three software companies in VisualMetrics, The WebTools Company, and BrightPlanet. In the mid-1990s he authored an award-winning Internet search tutorial and then in 2000 named and authored the first definitive research on the deep Web of searchable databases.

Most recently, Mr. Bergman had been an independent consultant and Web scientist emphasizing structured and semantic Web tools and data. His last formal position up to the end of 2006 was as CTO and chairman of BrightPlanet Corporation. Mr. Bergman maintains a popular blog, AI3:::Adaptive Information, at http://www.mkbergman.com/.
