Verizon wants to say Hello to cable customers on Long Island.
The firm said it plans to roll out a high-speed fiber optic network complete with cable TV service to 16 additional Nassau County communities, on top of the 13 areas it already announced.
The firm plans to build a fiber-optic network delivering high- speed data, clearer voice and a full suite of video services to residential and business customers in select communities.
As part of the plan, Verizon hopes to offer FiOS TV, its own cable service, on the network as early as the second half of 2005.
When we do roll out our FiOS TV, it'll give a choice, which consumers always want, said Verizon spokesman John Bonomo.
Verizon plans to seek a franchise agreement from local authorities before offering cable service.
To help build the network across the country, Verizon said it will hire between 3,000 and 5,000 new employees by the end of the year, including hundreds in New York.
