Chinese OK With Government-Run Internet

The Chinese government controls much of its country’s Internet and while Americans might find it too restrictive, Chinese users seem quite happy about it.

In fact, the latest figures from Pew Internet & American Life Project indicate that 85 percent of Chinese Internet users not only approve of control and management but think the government should be responsible for doing it.

The Chinese government seeks to comply by censoring or blocking politically outspoken blogs, denies access to such international Web sites such as Wikipedia and has arrested people for inciting subversion for posting something critical of China.

In a recent all-inclusive proclamation, the government forbade online audio or video content that damages China’s unity and sovereignty, harms ethnic solidarity, promotes superstition, portrays violence, pornography, gambling or terrorism, violates privacy, damages China’s culture or traditions.
