Large Private Wireline Carrier in Russia Selects Digital Lightwave NIC Plus for Jitter Testing Needs; Sale Marks First Significant Deal in Russia

Posted on: Monday, 28 February 2005, 15:00 CST

Digital Lightwave(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:DIGL), a leading provider of optical networking technology and test instruments, today announced that a large private wireline carrier in Russia has selected Digital Lightwave's NIC Plus(R) to fulfill its Jitter testing needs.

"Digital Lightwave added Jitter technology to its NIC product line specifically addressing significant opportunities for us in Asia and Europe," stated Michael Riddick, Senior Vice President of International Sales, Digital Lightwave. "Advances in our strategic focus on international sales can be seen through growth of our distributor relationships and our investment in globally appealing technologies. This sale marks our first significant deal in Russia."

Through their Russian based distributor Prime Road Group, Digital Lightwave was awarded the contract to outfit the carrier with its highly flexible and adaptable Network Information Computer(R) equipped with Jitter testing technology. The NIC Plus units will be used primarily for implementation and maintenance of the wireline carrier's extensive network footprint. Prime Road Group, one of Russia's largest telecom equipment distributors, has exclusive representation of Digital Lightwave products in the countries of Russia, Belorussia, Ukrain, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Turkmenia, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Jitter testing is vital to detect flaws and inconsistencies in timing systems that would hamper the ability to transfer data at high rates. Jitter testing is used in the design of equipment, manufacturing test, field implementation and maintenance, creating a sizable potential customer base for NIC products.

NIC products are available in several configurations, based on a common platform with three different chassis. Modules supporting SONET, SDH, OTN, ATM, PDH, T-Carrier, and Ethernet are available. The latest in Jittter and Ethernet as well as the next-generation SONET/SDH (Virtual Concatenation, Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme, Generic Framing Procedure) technologies are available in new NIC products and as upgrades to existing products.

About NIC Products

Digital Lightwave's portable NICs are software-based, modular products that combine a multitude of test functions in a single integrated solution, including OTN, SONET/SDH, T-carrier/PDH, ATM, Ethernet, and Jitter analysis. Existing NIC Plus products can be upgraded to include Jitter capability.
