What: OFC/NFOEC 2005

When/Where: March 6 - 11 (Exhibits Open March 8 - 10) at the

Anaheim Convention Center

Details: As the access network infrastructure that enables full

triple play to deliver voice, data and video for the

connected home or business, FTTx has the potential to

change the way people live, work and play. Technology

experts from around the world will converge on

OFC/NFOEC next week to report on and discuss the state

of FTTx and its deployment worldwide. For example,

executives and engineers from NTT in Japan will

discuss the success of the rapid expansion of

broadband in Japan as well as reducing costs for

first-mile deployment.

As the largest and most comprehensive international

event for optical communications, this year's combined

OFC/NFOEC will for the first time host the entire

scope of optical communications, providing exhibits,

live demonstrations and educational activities for all

audiences.

Highlights: FTTx Educational Programming includes:

Tuesday, March 8 at 12:00 noon - FTTx - an

International Perspective. Hear experts from Asia Pac,

Europe and the US discuss the latest trends and

developments in FTTx. Confirmed speakers include:

-- Dana Cooperson, group director, Optical

Networks, RHK (moderator)

-- Brian Whitton, executive director, Access

Technologies, Verizon

-- Hiromichi Shinohara, director, NTT Access

Network Service Systems Labs (OFC/NFOEC

keynote)

-- Michael DiMauro, executive director, FTTH

Council

-- Patrick Garvey, broadband market development

manager, Corning

The panel will be held in room 204 A of the Anaheim

Convention Center. OFC/NFOEC is hosting this event

exclusively for registered members of the press and

analyst community. RSVP to leah@wilkinsonshein.com.

-- Sunday, March 6 at 12:00 noon - short Course on

Passive Optical Networks and FTTx.

-- Monday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m. - FTTP: Now or Never?

- workshop featuring speakers from Telcordia

Technologies, Amedia Networks and IEEE Lasers &

Electro-Optics Society.

-- Wednesday, March 9 at 4:00 p.m. - FTTx - session

featuring six technical paper presentations from

NTT-NEOMEIT, NTT-WEST, NTT Japan, KAIST Republic of

Korea, University of California, Harmonic, Teknovus

Inc. and Verizon.

-- Tuesday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. - Broadband Access:

FTTP Is Changing the Game. This session is one of

many in the third annual Market Watch: Business and

Technology(TM), March 8 - 10, a three-day series

that will focus on the applications and business

trends that impact the future of the optical

communications industry.

On the Exhibit Floor - Tuesday, March 8 - Thursday,

March 10

-- FTTH/PON Demonstration and Resources Area - FTTH is

the final push in delivering triple play services

(voice, video and data) from service providers to

the home and business users. Using optical fiber's

unsurpassed bandwidth, FTTH technology can deliver

thousands of times the bandwidth compared to HFC

(hybrid fiber coax), Twisted Pair and wireless

services. The FTTH/PON demonstration area (at the

back of Hall C in booth #2697), will showcase the

products and equipment used in FTTH/PON

installations, and is being coordinated with the

support of The Light Brigade.

-- International Theater, a one-stop venue showcasing

the latest technology advances from around the

world. Programming highlights include presentations

from Montreal Photonic Network, Hong Kong, Mainland

China, Taiwan and Brazil Photonics.

About OFC/NFOEC: Since 1985, the Optical Fiber Communication

Conference and Exposition (OFC) has provided an

annual backdrop for the optical communications field

to network and share research and innovations. In

2004, OFC joined forces with the National Fiber Optic

Engineers Conference (NFOEC) creating the largest and

most comprehensive international event for optical

communications. By combining an exposition of more

than 600 companies, with a unique program of

peer-reviewed technical programming and special

focused educational sessions, OFC/NFOEC provides an

unparalleled opportunity reaching every audience from

service providers to optical equipment manufacturers

and beyond.

OFC/NFOEC, www.ofcconference.org, is managed by the

Optical Society of America (OSA) and co-sponsored by

OSA, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics

Engineers/Communications Society (IEEE/ComSoc) and

the Institute of Electrical and Electronics

Engineers/Lasers and Electro-Optics Society

(IEEE/LEOS). Acting as non-financial technical

co-sponsors are Telcordia Technologies, Inc. and the

International Conference on Integrated Optics and

Optical Fiber Communication (IOOC). *T
