Alcatel-Lucent has upgraded its IP service routing portfolio to enable operators to meet the demand for higher bandwidth.
The France-based company said the 7750 Service Router (SR) and 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) offer Terabit performance and will deliver optimized network processing and traffic management at speeds up to 100Gbps.
The company said the 7750 edge router will have more than twice as many GigE ports per rack as Juniper's M320 and more than four times as many as Cisco's XR12000. It said its 7450 Ethernet switch will also more than quadruple the GigE ports per rack of Cisco's 7609 and Juniper's MX960.
Since 2004, Alcatel-Lucent has shipped more than 20,000 IP/MPLS systems, resulting in an installed base of more than 200 service provider customers in more than 90 countries. In March 2007, it launched its upgraded IP/MPLS edge routing portfolio to address fixed and mobile carrier requirements for increased network and service availability.
