Today, at the 2008 Annual Meeting and Exposition of the COMMON Users Group in Nashville, Tenn., IBM described to a standing room only crowd of IT professionals how the company's new Power Systems product line will help users optimize their IT infrastructures.
"We are excited that IBM would unveil its new Power Systems product line at our meeting. We have always seen ourselves as collaborators with IBM," said COMMON President, Randy Dufault. "We believe COMMON offers the insight into the user experience that helps IBM to fine tune the System i and System p platforms."
Introduced at the largest forum for the i5 OS community, IBM's announcement brought the news directly to the IT professionals supporting small and medium sized businesses. The new Power Systems product line offers System i and System p users a line of servers that are more efficient and cost effective. For small and mid sized organizations that want to support Windows, Linux, and i5/OS applications, IBM's latest offering supports the use of multiple applications simultaneously on a single server system. This helps businesses overcome the customary challenges of distributed systems including problems with security, reliability, and high cost.
The COMMON Users Group helps IBM understand its users' needs. Through advisory councils, focus groups and beta tests, COMMON supports the development of solutions that work for small and midsized companies. The new Power Systems product line highlights the advances that have been made in administrative simplicity, application flexibility, energy conservation and server utilization.
"COMMON members are our users and advocates and their participation here helps ensure our products meet user needs. Power Systems packages value and performance in a way that helps small and mid-sized businesses overcome traditional budgetary and administrative obstacles," said Ross Mauri, General Manager, Power Systems Division at IBM.
The COMMON Annual Meeting and Exposition brings together mid-range IBM server users and industry experts to exchange ideas and learn about new products and educational opportunities. The Exposition is the largest event of its kind in the world.
COMMON is the world's largest users group of midrange IBM and IBM-compatible technology. The organization comprises more than 4,000 individual and corporate members. They represent more than 22,000 IT professionals involved with the IBM i5/OS, OS/400 and related solutions. For more information about COMMON, visit www.common.org
